Charities

During its 100 years the Lodge and its members have subscribed most generously to all of the recognised Masonic and other charitable causes. The measure of these donations is amply illustrated by the following extract from the front of the Lodge Summons :

  • Patron R.M.I.G. Patron R.M.I.B. Patron R.M.B.I.
  • Founding Lodge and Double Patron Lodge of Royal Masonic Hospital.
  • Named Bed in the Province of Essex Ward.
  • Named Room in Nurses’ Home in R.M. Hospital.
  • Founder Lodge of the Wakefield Wing.
  • Named Bed in the British Hospital, Buenos Aires.

When viewed in the light that the Lodge has never at any time included in its membership Masons of considerable financial wealth, this record is such that the members can be justly proud of their achievements and it is hoped that the future will bring about even greater efforts by all concerned.

Within the years 1988 to 2012 the lodge has achieved additional Charity Honours:-

  •  In the Essex Year 2000 Festival the Lodge was awarded the Gold award with Donations in excess of £19,000.
  •  In 2011 the Lodge Achieved Grand Patron award in the Essex 2011 Festival donating over £15000.

In addition the Lodges has supported many other local Charities including the TLC Teddies, Essex Air Ambulance, Local Hospice appeals and also achieved a Vice Patron award to the Chelmsford Cathedral Appeal. Additionally the Lodge has a active Almoners Fund to take care of our Widows and Families.
